Hello C3 families. It was a blessing to start out the day with praise and worship and an encouraging word from Gods word.  I think it changed the environment of the entire day, what do you think?  Thanks to Joshua Randle for being willing to come and be used to lead us into Gods presence through praise and worship.  We may have some volunteers within our ranks to do praise and worship each Tuesday morning!  I'll keep you posted on that.

High School

Spanish - Be prepared for a quiz on any and all of the information from page 100.  Also finish reading p. 99 and answer the questions on page 101.

W. History - Read lessons 102, 103 & 105 in Unit 21. Work on mural, song or speaking assignments for open house. I'd like to view your progress this Tuesday.  Please have something ready to show of your progress on Tuesday.  You only have 3 more weeks till open house which is scheduled for March 21st. 

W. Literature- We  will be viewing "Les Miserable's" today at the Randle home (the older version) at 1pm and meeting to view the current theatrical release tomorrow in Mira Mesa at the 2:05 showing.  Again those who opt to read the book or listen to the book on line at www.librivox.org will receive a treat of In & Out.  You have 3 weeks to read the book or listen to it online.  On Friday/Monday after we view both movies, please write a rough draft of a character analysis on Jean Valjean to share in class on Tuesday.  It should be at  least 3 paragraphs but no more than 5.

Review the Eye on pgs 276-285 for the dissection next week, know eye anatomy.

Treasurer: Figure out what it would cost to build the City Hall that is 2400 sq ft at $275 a sq ft. How do you plan to get the money for it? Where should it come from?

Latin: Be prepared for a test on chapters 10-15. Practice the song for open house.  It is in your book on page 75.

Science: I introduced the second part of Module 5 today, and students should review the material by reading pages 124-132. Have students review the bold and highlighted vocabulary terms from Modules 3, 4 and 5 for a Jeopardy game next week.
IEW:
I handed out a brief bio on Abraham Lincoln. Students are to take notes, creating a 3-paragraph keyword outline, then write a first draft by next week.

Students are making their own Civil War timelines on posterboard. Use this informative site for dates and details. They needn't write every date, just a few memorable ones from each year, and include a photo (drawn or photocopied). We will display these during Open House.

American Literature: Begin reading "Iron Thunder".  You should be through chapter 15 by Tuesday.  Answer the following questions and bring them to class to share.  (Also study for another jeopardy game that will include vocab, literary terms, and the literature we have read).
1. Why does Tom have to quit school? What does his mother want him to do instead?  How does Tom  feel about this plan.
2. Who is Captain Ericsson?  How is he described to Tom? What are  Tom's first impressions of Captain Ericsson?
3. How does Tom get the gold coin? Why doesn't he tell his sister Dora the truth about where it came from?
4. When Tom allows the copperhead to buy him a meal, is he also agreeing to spy for him? Why or why not? Why do you think the copperhead has chosen Tom to be a spy?
5. Tom insist on referring to the boat by its name, the Monitor, to the boys at the funeral.  Why? How have his feelings about the boat changed since he began working on it? 
Important Note: Calling all moms, we need to have an important meeting no later than next week regarding open house which is quickly approaching, (March 21st).  I propose that we have it next Tuesday Mar. 5 mmediately following school or Friday March 8 at my house at 3pm.  If we get right to it , the meeting should not take more than an hour since it is only on open house.  Let me know your preference.  If we are too split then I will make the final decision of when and where.

W. LiteratureComplete the book "I, Juan de Pareja". Begin to prep for open house sharing of the book you have chosen.  So far the choices have been Jonathan R. - "Cat of Bubastes", Elisha - "A Proud Taste for Scarlett and Miniver", Jonathan A. - "Hittite Warrior", and Jesse - "Bronze Bow", Ezra - "Martin Luther".  In your presentation, as a reminder, please include 1. the historical setting of the book, 2. the historical background, 3. historical timeline, 4. characters in the book and which are historical and which are fictional, and 5. the theme and plot of the book.  You can get creative in this and present your book in a song, a rap, a drawn picture that you will have to explain, or through excellent speech.  Next Tuesday we discuss meeting at the theater and my home to see the two versions of "Les Miserables".

Latin:Review lessons 10 - 15, practice vocabulary words for all 5 lessons.  We will have a testy covering the last 5 chapters in 2 weeks.  Also, practice and memorize song for open house. 

ScienceRead Module 5 p. 111-124.  Make vocabulary notes for all underlined and highlighted terms.

IEW: Students created an outline today for a book report on "Freedom Train".  Students will write a first draft, then a second draft by adding in the Dress ups, Sentence Openers and Decorations.  Then re-write the report one final time, double spaced, with all stylistic techniques marked.

American Literature: Continue reading "Charlie Skedaddle". Chapters 9 - 17 should be done by Tuesday.    Look up the vocabulary words from the boardwork in class yesterday and add them to your vocabulary words.  Mrs. Randle will send them out via email for anyone that does not have them.  Also, study your vocabulary words and literary devices for a game this tuesday that will include a small prize for the winner.

History- Read all of unit 19 in prep for class.  Begin working on the parts of either the mural, the song, the rap or the beats for open house that you were assigned.  Collaborate throughout the week Jonathan A, Jonathan R. and Elisha to decide which lessons will be included on the mural and in the song/rap.  I would love to see Jesse and Ezra do some speaking for the mural/song presentation as well as both of them are excellent speakers.  Ezra should/could have a part in the mural also as he is also gifted in art.

Using your graph paper, each square represents 1 sq mile. Mark your lines to make 120 sq miles.
On another paper, you can draw the buildings on the list using each square as 1 sq foot.
I will make one to scan it to you as a sample.
3. Please read the papers given in class again and ask your parents at least one of the questions. Write a brief response to return to class next week. 
4. Research the positions needed for the city, those that are elected and appointed. Come to class with a list with which position you are interested in.

Hello again C3 families.  We made it through another beautiful co-op day.  It was great to have a switch up of spaghetti this week.  Thanks to all the moms for contributing to the switch.  Thanks to Mr. Randle for coming to do a bible study with the high school young men.  Also thanks to Mr. Alvarado for the weeks he has come to help with Ms. Shirleys economics class.  Thank  God that there were no injuries to the  McCowans in their recent car accident with the  train in Los Angelos.  Please be sure to pay attention to each homework assignment and complete ALL that is listed on the  assignments.

W. LiteratureBegin the book "I, Juan de Pareja", read half of the book and be preared to discuss.  Look for and record any literary devices you recognize during your reading. Be sure to record the page you found the literary device on and be preared to share your list in class.  Some devices to look for are personification, simile, metaphors, hyperbole (an obvious  and unrealistic exaggeration), onomatopoeia, pun or oxymoron.

The six basic simple machines are: lever, wheel and axle, pulley, inclined plane, wedge and screw.

Resistance – the weight being lifted
Mechanical advantage – the amount by which force or motion is magnified in a simple machine.

IEW: We have written an outline for character development of Praiseworthy. Today I demonstrated how to use Decorations. Students can use their outline to write a first draft of their essay on the character of Praiseworthy.  Then, edit the draft by adding 6 Dress Ups, 6 Sentence Openers and 6 Decorations. Finally, rewrite the essay a final time, marking all Dress Ups, Sentence Openers and Decorations. Bring everything to class Tuesday.
